Safe Arbour’s vision, mission, and values

Safe Arbour’s Vision

A world in which women and children have healed from the damaging impacts of domestic abuse, and are free to achieve their full potentials.

Safe Arbour’s Mission

To move closer to our vision, Safe Arbour creates an antidote to the dynamics of domestic abuse by:

o   Reducing isolation by creating a place for survivors to get to know and support each other

o   Improving self-esteem and alleviating shame by educating participants on the dynamics of domestic abuse, its roots in patriarchal culture, and its impact on women and children

o   Increasing survivors’ independence and autonomy by enabling mothers and children to separate and reunite successfully, and connecting families to services and their community

o   Repairing mother-child attachment through play, encouragement, and appreciation of strengths

 Safe Arbour’s Values

o   Our top priority is protecting women’s and children’s right to be physically, psychologically and emotionally safe.

o   We define domestic abuse as a feminist and human rights issue.

  • o   We value survivors, both women and children, for their strengths, abilities, and contributions.

o   We do not judge survivors or perceive them as damaged.

o   We value sharing power between facilitators, women, and children, listening and responding to the needs of every individual involved in Safe Arbour.

o   We believe that the physical environment, interactions from staff, and every aspect of the programme should be respectful, nurturing, and contribute to healing.
